Swiss Roll

Swiss Roll ingredients:

3 eggs (at room temp!)
75g caster sugar
75g self raising flour
3tbsp jam, or choc spread or lemon curd.

Please do not put the ingredients into the fridge when you get to school as this will stop the eggs from whisking up properly!

Year 9- After Half Term

Hi all,

After half term you are to make a Fusion dish which consists of at least 2 different cultures...

Examples; Full English Quiche, Tortilla Lasagne, Chilli Chocolate Mousse

This will be on either Thursday 6th Nov or Friday 7th Nov (depending on your Practical Day)

There will be a prize for the most innovative and interesting Fusion Idea.

Year 9X- Plan for next two weeks

We miss our lesson on Monday due to Workshops so:

Tuesday 30th Sept- Re-arranged Curry Practical
Thursday 2nd Sept- Chinese Dumplings- Bring in the filling only (e.g. cooked meat, cheese,)
Friday 3rd Oct- Culture Presentations to rest of Class- be ready!

Design Ideas Homework

Hi all,

Here are some notes to help you with your design ideas:


  1. MESS Issues- Moral (ethical issues- Free-range eggs/fairtrade), Environmental (Pollution, air miles), Social (Vegetarians/Vegans/Allergies/Intolerance), Sustainability (Packaging/Recyling)
  2. How will the product be modified or changed? Different meats/flavours/vegetables etc.How to make it suitable for vegetarians/vegans etc?
  3. Don't forget the title/labels/sensory descriptions/skills shown (e.g. using an electric whisk, food processor, oven/grill, hob etc.) functions of the ingredients (e.g. sugar for sweetness and colour, rice for bulking (Sushi))
